Reading Lamentations 3:22-23 had a different meaning for me last Sunday.
It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.(Lamentations 3:22-23)
I’ve always viewed it as God’s kindness, goodness, blessing and favor is poured out to me every morning.
And rightly so for that’s what it is.
However, coming from another perspective, it blew me away.
Mercy is not getting what we deserve while justice is getting what we do deserve.
Coming from this perspective then, what this means is that …
“each and every morning, because of His mercy, God withholds what I actually deserve.”
If God chooses to give me what I actually deserve basing on what I did the day before, there’s no way I can stand before him… or the day before that … and before that.
His mercies are new every morning. And for that, I am grateful… every morning.
