A doctor and a lawyer were standing together at a party. As they were talking, a woman comes over and begins asking the doctor some questions about a pain in her leg. Being a nice man, the doctor gives her some advice. After she leaves, the doctor turns to the lawyer and asks, “I just gave her fifteen minutes of my time. Can I bill her for the professional services I just rendered?”
“Certainly,” the lawyer replies. “She asked you the same questions a patient would ask her doctor, and you gave her advice.”
The next morning the doctor writes out a bill for the woman. At the same time, the lawyer writes a bill for the doctor, charging him for the legal counsel he gave him.
The lawyer taught the doctor something that day: Treat others as you yourself would like to be treated.
