WHAT’S YOUR EXCUSE?

As I was preparing for our message this weekend, I came across an article that listed down the different Bible characters and how they could’ve come up to God and made an excuse why God can’t use them.  Some of them actually tried.

I was reminded of one of my most favorite verses in the Bible that says,

“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are.” (1 Corinthians 1:27-28)

Here are some of the Bible characters God used mightily yet had their flaws…

Noah got drunk.
Abraham was too old.
Joseph was a daydreamer.
Jacob was a liar.
Leah was ugly.
Moses had a speech problem.
Gideon was a scardey cat.
Samson was a womanizer.
Rahab was a prostitute.
Jeremiah & Timothy thought they were too young.
David had an affair with a married woman and murdered her husband.
Elijah was suicidal.
Isaiah thought himself unworthy.
Jonah ran away from God.
Naomi was a widow.
Job went bankrupt.
Martha was a perpetual worrier.
The Samaritan woman who spoke with Jesus at the well was five times divorced.
Zaccheus was too small.
Peter denied Christ.
The disciples fell asleep while praying.
The little boy only had 5 loaves & 2 fish.
Paul was a religious fanatic.
Timothy had ulcers.
Lazarus was dead!

How about you?  What’s your excuse?

“JUST A VOLUNTEER”

This weekend is Volunteer Weekend in many of the Victory churches in the Metro.

I remember speaking to a volunteer one time when someone asked her a question.  Because she’s a faithful and very committed volunteer, she was often seen at the church working on administrative stuff.  One person asked her if she was in full time ministry.

Her answer?  “I’m just a volunteer.”

Overhearing the conversation, I quickly yet gently corrected her, “You’re not just a volunteer.  You are a vital part of what goes own every weekend.  Don’t ever say that again.”

You are NOT JUST a volunteer.

If you are an usher that ‘ush’, you DON’T JUST point people to their seats.  You create a warm and friendly environment that would cause people to keep coming back to church so that one day they will make a commitment to follow Jesus the rest of their life.

If you are in the power point team, you are NOT JUST there to click the mouse.  You are vital to delivering the Word of God straight to the heart of the people that come.

If you are in Kids Ministry, you are NOT JUST taking care of the kids so parents can enjoy the worship service.  You are discipling the next generation of world changers.

If you are in the Administrative Support Team, you are NOT JUST in the registration table giving information to people who need it.  You are a bridge to get people involved in what God has prepared for them to be and do.

If you are in the Music Ministry, you DON’T JUST sing or play an instrument.  You have the privilege of bringing people right in the very throneroom of God.

If you are in the Communications Ministry, you DON’T JUST update websites, takes photo and video and write articles.  You are critical to the communication of God’s love to people who desperately need to hear it.

If you are in the Creative Support Ministry, you DON’T JUST create props and set designs.  You help the message of Gospel to be communicated in a way that is visual, powerful and sticky.

You see, you are NOT JUST A VOLUNTEER…

You are a vital part of what God’s doing so that His will would be done on earth as it is in heaven.

You are NOT JUST A VOLUNTEER!
