ANDERSON SILVA KNOCKOUT TAKEAWAYS

(NOTE: This is not a post fight analysis. I’m not an MMA expert.)

A lot of life can be compared to the recent Weidman-Silva UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) bout.

Here are a few of my thoughts.

1. KEEP YOUR HANDS UP.

The devil comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). But God has given us a way to ward off the enemy in Ephesians 6. He has given us the armor by which we can fight and even defeat the enemy. But putting your guards down will place you in a position of vulnerability and maybe defeat eventually.

2. IF YOU THINK YOU’RE AHEAD, YOU’RE ACTUALLY IN DANGER OF LOSING.

The wisest man who has ever lived, Solomon declares, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” (Proverbs 16:18)

When you think you are in control, you actually lose control. Things get in your head and ultimately makes you cocky.

3. RESPECT YOUR OPPONENT.

It is true that “Greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4)

However, the enemy prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)

As a result, living in the presence and the power of the Spirit will keep us in the zone of victory… everyday.

4. YOU CAN ALWAYS BOUNCE BACK.

I have deep respect for Anderson Silva… still.

You won’t win 17 consecutive fights in seven years if you’re not a phenomenal fighter.

The only worse thing about losing a battle is to not learn from it.

I believe he will learn from this and bounce back.

Many of you have been knocked out by life but guess what, by God’s grace, you can bounce back.

The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked. (Proverbs 24:16)
