I had the privilege of attending the Rising Higher book launch of Kelly Williams at Fully Booked Bonifacio High Street.
It was well attended by many of his teammates, friends, family and church friends.
I was blown away by the humility and transparency to share what he’s been through – and how each step, God had Kelly at the palm of His hands.
Here are a few of my favorite quotes from Kelly’s book, “Rising Higher.”
“Looking back, it taught me that I cannot allow anyone to dictate whether or not I achieve any degree of significance in this world.”“It all had become very clear to me that I needed Jesus in my life. I stood in front of the church that morning with my hands raised in surrender to God and tears pouring down my face. Uncle Mike prayed with me the sinner’s prayer and I accepted Christ into my life that morning.”
“The more I read the Bible and spent time to make sure I understood how it applied to my life, the more I was able to let go of some of the things that had laid heavy on me … I felt freer than I ever been. And through that, I was able to be focused on basketball like never before, and I enjoyed a much higher quality of life. I realized God is good.”
“My faith has taught me through every episode in my life, that I can get back up when life knocks me down. A Proverb in the Bible says, “Though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again.”
“I’m able to see personal growth, miracles and God’s favor on a group of men who also understand that their own strength, determination and will power alone just won’t suffice if they want to rise higher and move forward. I love how we can encourage one another to success and strive for better, then in the same breath, remind each other that this life is not about us.”
“It took some time but I can now confidently proclaim that my ‘secret’, my source, and my strength all lie at the foundation where I’ve placed all of my hope: My relationship with Christ.”
