DEEPER THAN THAT

When we think of Christmas, we usually think of a baby born in a manger.

But that wasn’t the goal.  It started in a manger but ended on a cross.

And THAT reminds me of how much LOVE was shown as a result.

It reminds me of the story of Fridtjof Nansen, a Norwegian explorer and statesman.  He lived Norway between 1861-1930.

He tried to measure an extremely deep part of the Arctic Ocean.  The first day he used his longest measuring line but couldn’t reach the bottom.

He wrote in his log book. “The ocean is deeper than that!”
The next day he added more line but again had to record, “Deeper than that!”

After several days of adding more and more line; He gave up without learning its actual depth.

All he knew was that it was beyond his ability to measure it.  How ever hard he tried, his conclusion was “Deeper than that!”

You may have an idea of how great His love is… but it’s deeper than that.
You may have experienced a moment of His love… but it’s deeper than that.
You may have heard of how awesome His love is … IT’S DEEPER THAN THAT.

I pray that you will all the more experience the love of Christ this Christmas season.

Eph. 3:18, NLT. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.

  2. Thank you for this blog, it has just confirm what I can truly feel and experienced that God’s love towards me is much deeper than I imagined. I have been married for 23 years, and I just recently realized how I am so so in love with my husband. I can only do this because of the deeper love of God towards me. Wow, we are really bless because God loves us.

  3. Thank you Ptr. Paolo. Reminded me that the true meaning of this Season is Jesus. That the love of God is deeper still than what I know. That our love relationship with God is a progressive climax that never ends. It takes eternity for God to express it. God defied time and space when He made ETERNITY – THE ALPHA AND OMEGA, made like us. So awesome and beyond comprehension, yet so wonderful that I’m stuck in this holy pursuit of Him.
    I love the Christmas Video…nakakatouch.

  4. I thank my Heavenly Father for His Wondrous Love! “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 4 v 10). God clearly demonstrated His great and boundless love for us, while we were yet in sin. You may be weak in your faith, or perhaps not given your life to Jesus Christ and wondering, can God possibly love someone like me? The answer is EMPHATICALLY YES!!!!No matter what kind of life you may have lived, or is presently living, or will be living in the future. God’s love never changes. None should perish but have everlasting life. That’s how much He loves us.

  5. Dear Rev. Punzalan:

You have just “made my day”. For YEARS I have been haunted by that entry in Fridtjof Nansen’s diary. I first heard it on a radio program. I have actually used it in a sermon once but could never recall the details that led to Nansen’s conclusion that “it was deeper than that”. I have actually tried to contact the radio stationd where I heard the broadcast but was told that the broadcasts have been discontinued and that there was no way of getting into the archives to do some “hunting” for this quotation…i.e. until a few minutes ago when I made an entry under “quotations” and “voila”, there it was. Such a simple statement but what a powweful way of depicting the love of God! And still, when all is said, “it’s deeper than that”. Thank you so very much.
