I really wanted to get a Matchbox. Not the one that starts a fire but one that was similar to Hotwheels (the toy car).
I was in Grade 1 and we were on our way to Baguio. Those days, imported goods such as Matchboxes were only available in stores where they sell PX Goods (Philippine Exchange). This blog will date me as Jurassic but I do have a point.
My uncle promised me that when we get to Dau (Pampanga), he would get me one. I was excited, thrilled and so looking forward to playing with my anticipated gift. I was sitting in the backseat of our green Toyota Corolla smiling. Dreaming of what I would be doing with the yellow, Corvette I was going to receive.
We got to Dau. Everyone bought they needed to buy, visited the rest room, jumped back into the car. In a few minutes we were on route to Baguio. I sat in the backseat toyless, depressed and dejected. Long story short, my uncle forgot.
I didn’t enjoy the whole time we were in Baguio to say the least. I was hallucinating on the thought of playing with what could’ve been my Hotwheels. I could almost feel the wheels run through my fingers. But all those thoughts remained as thoughts. It never turned into reality.
At the end of Joshua’s life, he reminisces on all that God released as a promise for him and for the nation God was building. He recounted every single one of them, concluding with this declaration:
“Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.” (Joshua 21:45)
Our God is also our Heavenly Father. As such, He desires what is best for His kids. The promises He released for each and everyone of us are as good as done. The only issue is timing. Ecclesiastes reminds us that there is a time for everything and a season for every activity in heaven. (Ecc. 3:1) Our thoughts are not His thoughts. Our ways are not like His ways. And our timing may not necessarily the same as our timing.
But this is what we are sure about: God is a Promise Keeper!
What He says, He does.
As you begin this week, may this be the prayer of your heart:
Lord, thank you that I can trust in Your timing. Because You are a Promise Keeper, what You say, You will do. My only prayer is that I will accept the timing of the events You are orchestrating for You are able to cause all things to work together for my good and ultimately for Your glory. May this week be a week to express to You my trust that whatever happens, I am right in the palm of Your hands. You will never leave nor forsake. IN JESUS’ NAME. AMEN.
