“I FEEL SO DIRTY.”

Blog Banners.001“I feel so dirty because of all the things I’ve done. I’ve messed up my life. Where can I go?”

Back in the Old Testament days, people were deemed unclean through a variety of ways: by skin diseases, discharges of bodily fluids, touching something dead ( Num 5:2 ), or eating unclean foods ( Lev 11 ; Deut 14 ).

The Law gave provisions how one becomes clean. One of which was going through a purification process. The unclean person was to be washed in what the Jews called “living water.” Living water was distinguished as one that is not stagnant but moving water like from spring, rivers and rain. Stagnant water would be from cisterns or big reservoirs.

When Jesus met the woman at the well in John 4, she was drawing cistern water. He knew that she had lived a life that was impure (for she had been with different men) yet used the water from the well as an object lesson.

Jesus said told her, “If you had known the gift of God and who it is who said to you, ʻGive me some water to drink,ʼ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”

You see a person who is unclean has the ability to make another unclean by being in contact with them. A person who touches a dead person becomes unclean and whoever he touches will be unclean as well.

But it is only living water that would make an unclean person clean through the purification rites.

Jesus is the Living Water. The world may have caused us to become unclean because of sin but as we come to Him, we are made clean. He alone can bring complete cleansing that now makes us justified, blameless, perfect all because of His sacrifice on the cross.

If you are reading this and you have been marred by misdeeds and submerged in sin, come to the Living Water for He only not cleanses you, He gives you a fresh slate… a new start.

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation- the old is gone and the new has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

I’d like to invite you to pray this prayer:

“Lord, I have been separated from You because of my sin. I am unclean because of the mess I’ve created due to the wickedness of my own heart. I feel so dirty. But Your Word says that You are the Living Water that can make me clean. I come to You and in faith trust You as Lord and Savior, Lover and Forgiver, Master and Purifier of my life. Your death on the cross takes the curse of sin from me to be transferred onto you and Your righteousness imputed and passed on to me. Thank You for this gift of salvation and purification. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
