FASTING PREP

Posted on 4th of January, 2010

Conversation over lunch…

Ryan (6 years old): What is fasting?

Jenn: Fasting is staying away from things you normally like, particularly food, etc…

Ryan: I like spending time with family.  So can I fast from that?

Jenn: (stumped)…

Paolo: (stumped and laughing, unsure if it was a good thing or not)

DON’T MISS IT

Posted on 23rd of December, 2009

A story is told about the Wright brothers after they successfully got their ‘flying machine’ off the ground…

In December 1903, after many attempts, the Wright brothers were successful in getting their “flying machine” off the ground.

Thrilled, they telegraphed this message to their sister Katherine:
“We have actually flown 120 feet. Will be home for Christmas.”

Katherine hurried to the editor of the local newspaper and showed him the message. He glanced at it and said, “How nice. The boys will be home for Christmas.” He totally missed the big news–man had flown!

It will be silly for us to go to a birthday party and miss greeting the celebrant much less not gift him a gift.

Just a tip for parents – we can get a birthday cake and sing a happy birthday song for Jesus to bring back to focus to who is the center of this celebration.

“BUT IT’S SHORTER”

Posted on 21st of December, 2009

Coming home from church last night, Ryan and Janina rode with me while Nathan and Joaquin rode with their mom since they used another car coming from a birthday party.

A conversation between Janina, my 10 year old and Ryan, my 6 year old that made me bust out laughing went like this…

RYAN: I don’t like Robert (not his real name).  He’s weird.

ME: Ryan, be nice.  Don’t say that.

JANINA: Ryan, you can say it this way – “He’s different and unique.  I don’t get along with him because you dislike the way he acts.”

RYAN: Huh?  But “I don’t like Robert” is shorter!

Oo nga naman.

WOW, KIDS ARE GROWING UP…

Wow, I’m actually considering attending this seminar.  Because my eldest is now 13 and I’m sure it’s a different ball game.  Clem Guillermo will share his thoughts and experiences about raising up teens.
