AGAIN… AGAIN…

One of the favorite things my kids like to do before going to bed is to play ‘superman’.  It is done when I lie flat on my back on the bed with the 2 legs raised vertically.  They get on their tummies onto my 2 feet and suspend as long as they could.  Nathan used to like it until he got too heavy.  He’s now 14. Ha!

After they fall, their natural response?  Again!  Again!  Again!  From the time they were babies to now that they’re a bit bigger, there are certain things that just don’t get old – fun… especially with people you enjoy being with.

I was reminded of what G.K. Chesterton said…

Because children have abounding vitality, because they are in spirit fierce and free, therefore they want things repeated and unchanged.

They always say, “Do it again”; and the grown-up person does it again until he is nearly dead.  For grown-up people are not strong enough to exult in monotony.  But perhaps God is strong enough to exult in monotony.  It is possible that God says every morning, “Do it again” to the sun; and every evening, “Do it again” to the moon.  It may be automatic necessity that makes all daisies alike; it may be that God makes every daisy separately, but has never got tired of making them.

It may be that He has the eternal appetite of infancy; for we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we.

God enjoys spending time with us.

My prayer?  Lord, allow me to enjoy every bit of moment I spend with you… every single day.

MORE PRECIOUS THAT WHAT?

Prayer and fasting day 1: so far so good…

Reading a book now by Justin Taylor.  He was telling a story of an 85 year old man (father of John Piper) who wrote something in his journal 1 month before he passed away.  This is what he said.

“I’ll soon be 86 but I feel strong and my health is good.  God has been exceedingly gracious and I am most unworthy of His matchless grace and patience.  The Lord is more precious to me the older I get.

I had to re-read, re-re-read and re-re-re-read the last line.  It hit me.  Kablam!

What a statement from an 85 year old man.

That is my prayer… my desire and heart… that Jesus would be more and more precious to me the older I get.

Prayer meeting starts in 30 minutes…

I'M NOT BUT I AM

I’m really not excited about fasting.

When I hear people say that they’re looking forward to it, I wish I could switch bodies and share their excitement.  I actually dread it.  It’s not something I enjoy.  I think I enjoy food better to say the least.

I’ve also heard people say that after the 3rd or 4th day, it gets easier.  I’ve been doing this for several years now but the time it only gets easier is on the 7th day, at around 9 pm when I get my first meal.

I am not excited… but inside of me I really am.

I know it doesn’t make sense but it will in a minute.

I am excited about what God will do in my life and in the lives of many.

  • lives that are going to be changed
  • people who are going to be saved
  • small groups that are going to grow
  • young people who are going to get reached for God
  • financial breakthroughs
  • relational issues resolved
  • spiritual restoration
  • wisdom in major crossroads
  • increased anointing to minister
  • power to live for God in a way that would make Jesus famous
  • new jobs, promotions salary increases
  • productivity and abundance
  • family restoration

.

… and so much more…

Right before crossing the Jordan river to enter the promised land, Joshua who was leading the Israelite nation was told by God through an angel,

“Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do AMAZING THINGS among you.” (Joshua 3:5)

Before the miracle (the nation crossing the river on dry ground), they had to go to God and consecrate themselves.  They had to focus and separate themselves from all that might take them away from Him and fling their lives into His will and purpose.

We start the fast tomorrow.  I’m still not excited.  But really, I am.  I am excited about what God will do…

FOR TOMORROW, THE LORD WILL DO AMAZING THINGS AMONG US!

See you.
